Aspirating Smoke Detection, also known as ASD or Air Sampling, as developed over the last 25 years into a reliable, mature technology. Briefly, samples of air are continuously drawn through a network of sampling holes in pipes to a sophisticated detection chamber, where the air sample is analysed for the presence of smoke particles using a high performance light source (laser).
