- Short-term savings at the expense of high long-term cost of ownership; such as the unnecessary installation of large numbers of cheap to install but expensive to service wireless devices.
- ‘Closed’ or ‘managed’ protocol systems which only the original installer is readily able to service
- Long-term contracts with prohibitive break clauses
- Financial Incentives designed to encourage service staff to replace equipment when it may not be absolutely necessary
