  1. Rented or part rented systems providing the installer & not the customer with ultimate control over the installed system & future maintenance and monitoring charges.
  2. Short-term savings at the expense of high long-term cost of ownership; such as the unnecessary installation of large numbers of cheap to install but expensive to service wireless devices.
  3. ‘Closed’ or ‘managed’ protocol systems which only the original installer is readily able to service
  4. Long-term contracts with prohibitive break clauses
  5. Financial Incentives designed to encourage service staff to replace equipment when it may not be absolutely necessary
  6. Cheap, unbranded and largely untested imported equipment designed to maximise profit at the expense of reliability
